The 13-day strike has demonstrated that dockworkers confront a battle on two fronts: against the union-NDP backed Liberal government, which enforces the demands of the corporate elite and seeks to smash any resistance that obstructs the ruling class agenda of war and austerity; and against the union bureaucracy, which serves the ruling class by suppressing the class struggle

Premier Danielle Smith issued the following statement after hearing that both sides have reached a tentative agreement to bring an end to the B.C. port strike: 

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s statement on the end of the strike was uncharacteristically polite and only a little ambiguous.

Even Danielle Smith welcomed the federal government’s moves to end dispute.

The union held strike votes on June 28 and July 11. It says a 'majority' of members voted in favour of a strike. Both parties have agreed to continue negotiations with a mediator until July 28. If they don't reach a deal, the earliest workers can strike is Aug. 19.

On Wednesday, the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade released a port shutdown calculator showing the value of trade disrupted since the strike began 11 days ago.
