Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that scientists were looking into the cause of the land subsidence in the states Joshimath and the first priority remains to ensure that people are taken to safer areas.

With the continuous landslide in the Joshimath town of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, the state government has dispatched a team of experts to the area to assess the situation.

The CM also met the team of officials and experts who have been camping in the town since Thursday and took their feedback on the evacuation exercise, they said.

Uttarakhand’s Joshimath town is ‘sinking’ as hundreds of houses, buildings and roads in this Himalayan town have developed huge cracks. As the cracks in nearly 600 dwellings, roads and fields are widening, the water is gushing out of it sending the people into panic with most of them abandoning their properties.
