Joseph Reeder has been appointed to serve as the new U.S. magistrate judge in Huntington.

Joseph Reeder, a circuit court judge from Putnam County, has been selected as the new U.S. magistrate judge for Huntington. Joseph Reeder was first elected to Putnam County's circuit court bench in 2012, winning reelection in 2016 and 2024.

A judge has scheduled a hearing for May 31 on requests plaintiffs who have been inmates at West Virginia correctional facilities have made seeking information from Gov. Jim Justice and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mark Sorsaia. The plaintiffs motions are pending in a class-action lawsuit alleging state officials have allowed inhumane conditions at correctional facilities through chronic overcrowding, understaffing and deferred maintenance.
