Montgomery native, community activist and paralegal Carlton Avery announced Thursday that he plans to run for the vacant District 1 seat on the Montgomery City Council.
The seat was left empty when longtime Councilman Richard Bollinger died in March after battling cancer. Voters will choose his successor July 13, with a runoff set for Aug. 24. District 1 includes a wide swath of the city stretching from central to east Montgomery.
Avery is a lifelong Montgomery resident and graduate of Robert E. Lee High School who works with Vance Law Firm. He has served with nonprofit organizations, business and leadership groups through the years and organized neighborhood improvement efforts.
