Seven candidates have qualified to run in the Montgomery City Council District 1 Special Election on Tuesday, July 13. The seven candidates are Tijuanna Adetunji, Carlton Avery, Edwin “Ed” C. Bertarelli, Ed Grimes, Brenda Irby, Josephine Jordan, and Donnie Mims.
The vacant Montgomery City Council District 1 seat was formerly held by the late Montgomery City Councilman Richard Bollinger.
If necessary, a Special Election Runoff will be held on Tuesday, August 24.
The polling locations for the July 13, Special Election include Dalraida Church of Christ, Dozier Elementary School, Eastmont Baptist Church, Eastdale Baptist Church and Arrowhead County Club.

The qualifying period for candidates seeking to run in the Special Election for Montgomery City Council District 1 is set to begin on Tuesday, May 11. Interested candidates will have until Tuesday, May 25, to file the necessary paperwork to qualify to run in this election.
The Special Election will be held on Tuesday, July 13.
If necessary, a Special Runoff Election will be held on Tuesday, August 24.
For this Special Election, the deadline to register to vote is Monday, June 28. Eligible voters can register to vote online at the Secretary of State’s website AlabamaVotes.gov, the Montgomery Election Center’s website www.montgomeryelectioncenter.

Marche Johnson is now the newest member of the Montgomery City Council. Johnson won the special election runoff for the District 3 seat Tuesday. She replaces Tracy Larkin who held the seat for 17 years before his death in January.
Johnson, who is a Montgomery native says that she is more than happy to now be representing the very district that she grew up in. She has plans to change the city of Montgomery as much as she can and bring more of the community together to help uplift it.
” Definitely focused on social issues in the community. I strongly believe that when you focus on a whole person you will change that person and it will ultimately change the community because its like a snowball effect, so the non-profits, the faith based community definitely creating a bridge between elected officials, the faith based community. Non profits, and the community.”- Johnson.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Two women are vying for the District 3 Montgomery City Council seat, and a special runoff election on April 27 will determine who gets to hold the position.
Marche Johnson will face Adrienne Larkin, the wife of former District 3 City Council member Tracy Larkin who passed away in January. The late councilmen served District 3 for 17 years.
Seven candidates ran for the seat in a special election in March, but the vote ended in a runoff. Johnson secured 39% of the vote and Larkin secured 26%. A runoff was called because neither got 50% of the vote.
