reporting ukrainian advances around the two villages that have fallen without a fight. so that s potentially good news for ukraine. we know as well as fear battles towards the west of zapo zaporizhzhia. all of this in one of ukraine s goals in the counteroffensive, to cut ukraine s offensive in half, cut off the land bridge to crimea. one other thing to note, kim, we are hearing of two drones, according to the governor of the region there in russia. there s no claim to this nor has ukraine claimed any responsibility for it but it could fit a pattern of what we ve seen in recent weeks of cross border attacks either by people supporting ukraine or local partisans, all of this,
these strikes inside russia. privately, though, we re being told it s a good military strategy and has forced russia to divert resources to protect its own territory and it makes russians feel, in a way they haven t, the impact of the war that the kremlin launched on ukraine over a year ago. u.s. officials privately say, look, this is an inevitably of war. it was always likely ukraine would launch cross border attacks and it s a sound military strategy as they re ramping up for the counteroffensive. natasha, fabulous reporting. thanks for sharing it with us. up next, president biden s bipartisan moment. he sells the debt ceiling bill as proof he gets results, even with a divided governmnment. save 50% on the sleep number limited edition smsmart bed. plus, free home delivery when you add an adjuststable ba. only at sleep number.
for us. tell us more about the cross-border fights and who we know is responsible at this point on the russian side. reporter: it certainly is very much increasing in cross border attacks. just yesterday there were more than a dozen villages that the russians came under fire from the ukrainian side. russians are blame ing the ukrainianss for this. if you look at the updates from the areas, they will say with forces behind this, the ukrainians are saying that s not true. they are saying it s anti-putin russian fighters who here inside of ukraine fight on the side of ukra ukrainians. when they attack, they do that independently. one of the other things that we are also seeing in that border area as well is a lot of cross-border drone attacks. they happened in several areas on the other side of the boarde. and that also is part of the fact that you do have a very large ukrainian home grown drone
flying toward moscow. it seems the russians are pretty concerned about the situation in the war in ukraine. there really isn t any part of the front line where the russians are moving ahead. it seems right now the ukrainians are hitting the russians in many places, like some of those rear echelon areas in the places russia has occupied in ukrainian territory. berdyansk is one of them. then you have those russian border areas where once again overnight the governor of the belgrade area say where the ukrainians say they have nothing to do with it. in those areas in russia, the russians are saying there are a lot of cross border attacks using those drones. clearly the ukrainians are able to project their power into
committees. thank you for joining us this evening. the biden administration has been clear that they do not want ukraine to carry out cross border attacks inside russia. do you agree, and do you think there should be consequences if these attacks grow? well, alex, the biden administration has been clear that they don t want ukrainians to use u.s. supplied equipment in intelligence and information to conduct cross border attacks into russia. but they have been very clear that this is the ukrainian s fight, that the ukrainians have the ability to defend their sovereignty and homeland, and that we give them flexibility how and when they do that. we will assist them, do table top exercises and provided a vice and equipment. but we have been very clear that the limitations we are facing on the ukrainians are with respect to our supplies that we have been providing. it s been one of the fears of providing the ukrainians with long-range rockets.
