Got to stand by the police and the courts and the d.a.s, the prosecutors and the judges and ultimately us, the jurors, so we can have a civilized society. so its all happening before us. it harkens back to the 60s. i started on the police in 74. and i remember just the post-60s era and how the feelings were. and it very much brings this all back to the way things were back then. were reliving some of those issues. >> the left side of your screen, thats the somber processional making its way to t...

Department. its a common sense approach. im answerable to the people of the state and all the counties, and i think the public is -- confidence is shot in the ability of our local d.a.s, who do a great job, by the way, and i dont think there is the reality of bias to the degree which a lot of people are contending, but the public perception is created this wedge between people and the police, and its very dangerous to have the people of a city or a state feel that they cant trust the police. the...

I got to say that d.a.s are elected to do the job when it comes to making decisions on difficult cases. >> right. >> thats the nature of being a prosecutor. >> so what happened on staten island? because most americans, you know, we had a fierce debate over ferguson. >> right. >> and split, you know, down the middle. theres no debating staten island. everybody sat and saw that. what the hell happened? >> well, did you ask that question what happened on staten island? >> i think theres understanda...

Would nationally have deference to the police side of the story but these two officers were allowed to testify on their own behalf, something that has not happened with a civilian in process. they werent cross examined. d.a.s who are elected with the support of the police union and the police need, in a political way, the support of the police to win and have their jobs. once in their jobs they collaborate with police on a daily basis and are unlikely to ever indict them. and they rarely ever do...

Chicago, that says that the american people are saying that we want things to be better. i think we need to look into for example, what took place in new york in regards to the grand jury system. its important because i want to know as a former prosecutor what took place. what questions were asked by the d.a. did he thoroughly cross exam the police officer when hes on the stand as most d.a.s will do when you give a defendant the opportunity to testify before the grand jury. and why did all of th...
