Simpson has been under medical care at the hospital since May 27, 2023, and had chronic medical issues which is believed to be the cause of his death.

Metro Corrections officers tried to save a man who was found "in distress" May 28 at the downtown jail. The man died of an apparent suicide.

A Metro Corrections officer witnessed the attack, and he and others sprang into action to take the suspect into custody.

The victim is the 13th person to die in a 14 month period at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.

After the 12th death of a person in custody at the jail, the organization is urging Mayor Greg Fischer to end the contract with the facility.
