And we were required to look at a 5year time window but we extended it to look at the full array of things that have happened on the water front to pride, education for the public, and there are 123 different projects that have been profiled in the report, and while that is a lot, that is not every project, that has happened, but we think that it is reflective of the breadth of the activities that have taken place and it all started after the citys effort to tear down the freeway and replace it with the transportation improvements and both projects were separate, but coordinated in time. And so, what we thought that we could do is just start out with just some images to give you a flavor for what the water front looked like back then in 1997. Verses what we enjoy today. And starting from Fishermans Wharf, this is one of the more recent accomplishments, but clearly, at pier 43, what we enjoy today and what was available for americas cup, was once a dilapidated parking lot that really bl
Costs, to develop, and the ports property, particularly the historic piers. And there is a high expectation for Public Benefits in these projects, which drive up the cost of the project. The foundation of the water front plan has provided access to the capitol that the port would not have had. And also, a great deal of creativity from the private sector that comes through the public, private partnership, at the staff level we have worked to add Public Financing to the equation, to help to address some of these high costs. It did not address, the unique opportunities, the 34th americas cup and the exploretorium and these are the kinds of projects that present themselves that really the cities pursue, if they have become available and, so you cant hold the same kind of predevelopment planning process, and Competitive Bidding process for the opportunities, like this. And so, the water front plan does not articulate it, and a process. And in each case, when these projects have presented th
And i am really as john stated, i was for, and i am a supporter of washington, and i was a supporter of the mills corporation, and i was cheered when we chose the development for the building and for the renovation of pier one and for the wonderful projects that we do have along the water front and while, we are not always right on everything as you said, we are not always going to agree. But, what we have accomplished over the last 17 years, i just want to applaud everybody in this room for being a part of it. I cannot even count the number of meetings for the pier 7 on, sea wall 337, and i know that she does not have a full time job, because she is so busy working for the port and all of our efforts and, i just feel so much pride in the legacy that has been developed over the last 20 years, to make the water front what it is today. And i think that we have done an amazing job of community out reach. Of meeting with anyone who has, or who wants to understand anything about what is goi
Found to be sure that they are safe and clean and persist in the future. So finally, third, we need to listen and we need to understand what it needs, but with that working group that has been terribly productive and has will be participants who have rolled up their sleeves in a messy way, and the depend upon us to follow through, with them on our commitment to them and which is to understand what they are doing, and analyze what they are doing and come up with our best way of implementing that kind of vision. And that group of diverse and we all want to make sure that the water front accommodates that diversity of use and so let me sum up by saying, that i am new and it will be two years and a week or so and one of the first things that i really learned was that you have over the past 17 years, and a Productive Partnership with the port of San Francisco, and that is incredibly necessary and so now what we need to do is exploit it, and we need to think far in the future and we need to
Committee update. Board members and executive director, thank you once again for allowing us the opportunity to address you. I wanted to alert you to the fact that our last Board Meeting as in previous ones, we have been helping set the agenda, and the staff especially scott bula has been extremely responsive in bringing to our agenda each of these items as we request them. And among, our concerns that we will be watching in the future was with the federal elections kevin mccarthy, of course, becoming House Majority leader, is an opponent to cal and to the high speed rail and as nancy pelosi was our great advocate and that is something that we will keep watching all of the time and in contrast to that the giants ceo and the mayor have addressed an interest in possibly having a San Francisco olympics and so that may further add to the help behind the project and both the vice chair and myself sit on the vision zero team, and so we are very interested in making sure that there is no acci
