Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement is in effect for parts of central Ontario Thursday morning with heavy rain in the forecast.

Environment Canada first issued the heat warning for Calgary and Rocky View County on Saturday, saying daytime highs during the weekend were expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius.

Hydro-Québec said authorities were investigating what happened and weren’t ruling out high temperatures in southern Quebec as the cause.

“Air quality ranges from poor to dangerous and for a time on Wednesday, Toronto was the most polluted major city in the world,” Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell said.

According to an alert from Environment Canada, meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong winds, pea to dime size hail and torrential rain.

“Air quality ranges from poor to dangerous and for a time on Wednesday, Toronto was the most polluted major city in the world,” Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell said.
