Environment Canada says Toronto is under a frost advisory for Wednesday night into Thursday morning as temperatures are expected to drop to around the freezing mark.

As Canadians welcome the arrival of spring, they’re also experiencing a rollercoaster of weather temperatures that sees scorching heat one day and icy cold the next.

The report recommends updating the threshold for opening Toronto’s warming centres from -15 C to -5 C or when Environment Canada issues major winter storm weather warnings.

The travel advisory covers the 150-km stretch of Highway 1 between Highway 23 South and Golden Donald Upper Road.

A “major pattern change” will bring much warmer temperatures to southern Ontario in the coming days. Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell details what’s expected.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre issued the advisory Thursday, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall Thursday evening and into Friday, and again on Sunday and into Monday.

Hydro One warns that the worst may still be to come after a powerful storm with punishing winds and freezing rain knocked out power for thousands across Ontario on Wednesday.

Environment Canada said up to 10 centimetres of snow are expected in some areas west of Calgary with snowfall ending by Sunday night.

A special weather statement has been issued for most of southern Ontario on Friday, with freezing rain possible throughout the morning.

“It’s a situation where you could look out your window one minute and everything looks normal and then the next it’s a full-on snow globe outside.”
