The early voting period is now open for residents eligible to vote in several nonpartisan municipal races and five sanitary districts planned on the November general election ballot.
The filing period opened July 2 and closed Friday at the Wayne County Board of Elections.
Races in the town of Mount Olive, which take place every two years, have been moved to March 8, the same day as federal and state primaries, due to legislation requiring redistricting following delayed results of the 2020 U.S. Census, said Anne Risku, Wayne County Board of Elections director.
Newcomer Garrett Johnson is seeking the Pikeville mayoral seat while newcomers David âMattâ Thomas and Nick Katsenios are seeking election to the town board. Johnson, Thomas and Katsenios are unopposed in the races.
Incumbents filed for office in Seven Springs races, including Mayor Stephen Potter and town Commissioners Ronda Hughes and John Lee. Potter, Hughes and Lee have no challengers in the races.
