Ambassador Andrew Young and Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Ernie Suggs will visit Emory on Feb. 22 to discuss Suggs’ recent book chronicling Young’s extraordinary life as a civil rights leader, U.N. ambassador, Atlanta mayor and more.

The Emory community has several Black History Month events planned throughout February to highlight the diversity of the African American experience, including a new exhibit of work by photographer Tom Dorsey.

U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón will share her work in a reading that’s free and open to the public on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Emory University.

For the seventh year, Emory hosted Latino middle- and high school students to inspire hope and remind them that attending college is an achievable goal no matter what their background might be.

Returning to the Robert W. Woodruff Library for the first time since the pandemic, Feast of Words, the annual celebration of faculty authors, reinforced Plato’s notion of what books do, which is nothing less than “give life to everything.”

Emory has joined the Higher Education Leadership Initiative for Open Scholarship, a collective to advance and promote open research and scholarship. Emory’s participation enhances the university’s ongoing work around open access and scholarship.

Through archival research in the Rose Library and other Atlanta repositories, architectural historian Christina Crawford and her students have lifted up Atlanta’s role in the nation’s first two federally-funded housing projects — work that culminated in Georgia Historical Society markers.

As 2022 comes to a close, Emory wraps up the year with its final arts events, including several student ensemble performances and traditional holiday concerts such as the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.

The newest Emory Libraries exhibit, “Connections: The Power of Objects,” highlights objects displayed by libraries, museums and other organizations to increase knowledge, spark curiosity, encourage discovery and promote creativity. An event celebrating those connections will be Nov. 17.

With new leadership on board, organizational changes within Emory Libraries and the Michael C. Carlos Museum are intended to enhance and streamline internal work and create more capacity for public programs.
