details from our west coast newsroom tonight. good evening, jonathan. good evening, bret. speaker pelosi s office just released that statement confirming what they called the successful surgery on 82-year-old paul pelosi and saying his doctors at san francisco general hospital expect a full recovery following the violent attack. it was 2:27 this morning when police were alerted to an incident at the pelosi home in san francisco officers apparently arriving so quickly that the assault on mr. pelosi was happening as they got if there. our officers observed ms. pelosi and the suspect both holding a hammer. the suspect pulled the hammer away from ms. pelosi and violently assaulted him with it. our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disharmd him. took him into custody. it s not clear from the police chief s comments who was initially holding the hammer. whether the suspect brought it into the house or whether mr. pelosi had, perhaps, grabbed it for self-defense. polic
