The government is expected to publish the Brexit Strategy in an hours time. The white paper will set out its priorities for negotiations with the European Union after Parliament Takes the First Step Towards britain leaving the union, as mps vote overwhelmingly in favour of triggering article 50. Last night mps voted 498 to 114 in favour of approving legislation which gives the Prime Minister the power to start negotiations with european leaders. 47 labour mps, one in five, voted against the bill despite a three line whip imposed by the party leader, Jeremy Corbyn. And what will happen next . As mentioned, at around noon, Brexit Secretary david davis will announce the governments white paper on exiting the eu. Ministers argued that patients will benefit as care is brought closer to peoples homes but a major Health Think Tank has questioned the credibility of the plans. Protests outside Horton Hospital in oxfordshire just a few months ago where there are concerns about bed closures and cuts to stroke and critical care. And its not the only place. The conservatives have labelled their victory in the copeland by election a truly historic event. They took the seat from labour by more than two thousand votes The First Time a Governing Party has won a seat from another party in a by election for 35 years. The area has had a labour mp since the 1930s. For labour, the Shadow Chancellor John Mcconnell called the result disappointing. The party did hold on to the seat of stoke on Trent Central, in the other parliamentary by election result declared overnight. Who are already here are going to stay here. My own view is that the lords would be much better advised to concentrate on the real issue which is parliamentary consent to whatever final deal berries than this particular point. I personally am not concerned about this. I can understand people who are here in this country, 3 million or whatever, who are anxious about their future would like it resolved. But the europeans have made it clear they will not do anything until after brexit has been declared and the negotiations begin. That will be the first item on the agenda, so i do not think it is a substantial issue. Ido not think it is a substantial issue.
