precinct, right? also the size of the building and where it is. exit polling could be 50 feet away or hundred feet away any one interrogate building. it depends on what the building looks like. we have all kinds of different buildings that people are voting today. they are mostly public buildings. a lot of them are schools. they are town halls in the smaller towns. we talk about exit polling over the years and exit polling has been conducted outside the building. usually there is a way in and way out. it s conducted in the private building as people are leaving. some polling places, it is the same door, people come in and out the same door. the moderators have a passage way that is required, a minimum ten feet wide from the door to the road or on the street.
bret: welcome back to zillionth anselm college in manchester, new hampshire. all the polls will be closed in an hour-and-a-half for today s first in the nation primary. our exit polling indicates independents are splitting their support with roughly equal numbers backing romney, awful and huntsman. here is the brea romney, paud huntsman. here is the breakdown among late deciders we also learned from voters how they were contacted by the campaign, the candidate they supported. 46% said they were contacted by the traditional way, by phone, mail or in person. 7% got an e-mail, text or online message. 44% said they voted for a candidate but they were never contacted. for more on the various
welcome back to msnbc s live coverage of the new hampshire primary. polls will close statewide in new hampshire at 8 eastern. we have our first look at the exit polling from new hampshire. for that, we turn to our own tamron hall. tamron? we are getting our first look at voters who pent went to the polls in new hampshire were thinking about today. first, the issues. you see it there, the economy was the issue that voters cared most about when choosing a candidate. at 60% versus 25%, who said the federal deficit was the most important with abortion and health care trailing behind. now, to what qualities the voters looking for in a candidate and honestly, it was pretty evenly divided, a third said the most important quality is the ability to beat president obama. 27% said they wanted someone with the right experience to be president and you see there, 24% said strong moral character with
