representatives, deciding who boehner will give out committee assignments including an important committee, the biggest committee for the tea party, the appropriations post, right, that appropriates the money. reporter: if you look at what the voters said in this last election, they said it loudly and clearly, the exit polling shows that 58 percent of those who showed up to vote believe the government is doing too much, and only 38 percent want government to do more. that is a clear sign that you have people that came out and gave a mandate to cut spending, to cut back the growth of government, to limit government. and when boehner chooses someone for appropriations chairman, will it be someone who does things the way republicans did when they had the majority? neil: we will go through the names that are talked about to head the committee.
americans are concerned first and foremost about reducing the deficit and tied for first, creating jobs. now what they are going to do specifically is beyond what i can tell you other than the fact think can guarantee this. they are not going to make the same mistakes, they are going to embrace fiscal conservatism this time around. gregg: what happens when republicans try to defund the health care law and invariably offer something that is politically palpable, buying insurance across state lines, what is the democratic response to that? listen. i think that is mistake for republicans. adam talks about polls. that the first place to look. if you look at exit polling, americans are split on health care. republicans know they can t repeal health care. so both republicans and

a multitrillion dollar event that is going to significantly save on our spending which is the other issue that s very important tort tea party to the tea party movement, the out of control spending in washington. jenna: david, do you agree with that? the number one priority is health care, but we have to be realistic. we need to deconstruct and defund parts of it. until we have the three houses, we re not going to get this thing back. so while it s a nice slogan, that s not the practicality. i agree with jamie whole heartedly on the spending issue because even the cbo said we have to do one of two things, raise taxes or cut spending. and the only way we re going to do that is cut departments, divisions, and the only way to reduce the size of government is to actually reduce its actual size, and that is the bureaucracy. jenna: it s interesting to hear this conversation about health care because the number one issue for voters in exit polling was jobs, and that s a question we had a
today. they ll be humility. there will be some notion of humble pie and obligatory statements that he hears the message of the american people but does he hear the message of the american people? first step is probably to find jobs for 50 or 60 congresspeople who jumped off the cliff for the president s ideological agenda here in the united states and lost democratic congress based on the president s will to do obama care, to do stimulus, to make comments about social movements in the country like the tea party and then lost the house. so what he s facing is a resurgence and renewed strong tea party, a newly strengthened republican party, and a lack of a democratic congress in terms of the house. do you think he gets and the exit polling supports this, that the election was in many ways a
