A huge wave of battery-electric trucks and SUVs is about to be unleashed and the 2022 GMC Hummer EV truck is one of the most anticipated of the bunch. With the $112,595 First Editions set to be delivered to buyers this fall, the automaker is currently conducting final testing at one of the best and most grueling off-road playgrounds on the planet: Moab, Utah.
The beautiful but tough desert landscape is where automakers put their latest off-roaders to the test, but this time things are somewhat different. How does an all-electric supertruck handle things? Amazingly well. The team tested crucial systems like the adaptive ar suspension, Extract Mode, Terrain Mode, rear steering, CrabWalk, and One-Pedal Driving control.
2022 GMC HUMMER EV Tests in Moab
Just a week before Ford is set to unveil its F-150 called Lightning, GMC shows that its HUMMER supertruck is already in the altitude testing phase.

When an automaker is trying to prove that its vehicles can handle some of the toughest terrain, it appears that all roads lead to Moab, Utah. Jeep holds an Easter Safari every year, in Moab, to prove that its latest models can go off-roading with the best of them. This year, the Ford Bronco crashed the Jeep party showing that the all-new vehicle was up to the off-road challenge. Now, GMC is showing that the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV supertruck is capable of handling the rugged Moab trails. GMC is releasing the information just one week ahead of Ford’s scheduling unveiling of its electric F-150.
GMC showcases off-road testing and calibration of HUMMER EV Pickup
GMC is showcasing some of the HUMMER EV Pickup’s off-road testing on challenging trails near Moab, Utah in the lead-up to its production debut this fall. The team’s testing and calibration included Adaptive Air Suspension hardware, Extract Mode, Terrain Mode, One-Pedal Driving control, e4WD and torque distribution, eLockers, stability control, rear steering, CrabWalk and more.
Available Terrain Mode, part of the GMC HUMMER EV’s Drive Mode Control, will offer two braking calibrations, with a mild braking option for two-foot driving and a purpose-designed One-Pedal Driving control in low-speed off-road driving.
In fact, the very architecture required to create an electrically-propelled off-road monster unlocks some pretty cool new features and functions, too.
Key among these is CrabWalk – a segment-exclusive feature that turns the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels, up to ten degrees, to enable diagonal driving. CrabWalk is an extension of the Hummer EV’s four-wheel steering system, which is designed to enhance maneuverability and shrink the turning circle of the vehicle, which makes it easier to drive in tight spaces. While maneuvering around an obstacle on a trail, this feature gives the Hummer EV a whole new dimension of low-speed capability.
GM takes wraps off Hummer EV SUV version; International launch scheduled for 2023

Automobile giant General Motors has recently taken wraps off an SUV version of the Hummer EV, though it will take some time to hit the showrooms. Last year, the Detroit-headquartered automaker introduced the GMC Hummer EV, a 350-mile fully-electric pickup truck with a starting price tag of $80,000. The SUV version will also start at $80,000.
GM’s decision to revive the Hummer brand and produce an electric version of the pickup truck shows the manufacturer’s increasing focus on the electrification of its fleet. The GMC Hummer EV comes loaded with a lot of striking features and decent specs. The same is expected from the newly-announced SUV version.
