the president has said that improved relations would benefit the united states. do you agree? it s a separate issue. i actually think, you know, henry kissinger has said we ought to look at some form of rekroechment with russia and whether ukraine should be in naturo, and whether we should be expanding. that s a foreign policy question. we want to debate it. he is, again, distracting from the issue. this issue is did russia try to intervene in our democratic process? it s something you have talked about based on another development that happened today. this is the announcement we re getting from two sources that say come monday, the president will sign a new executive order on immigration, and immigration travel ban. what s your reaction to that? i haven t seen the specifics, but so far the executive order has bun unconstitutional. they ve done things such as deprive people of access to lawyers. racially profiling individuals.
has the supreme supremacy and commitment to this. obviously, that s not what we re seeking to do. the question that was asked was about other people growing their stockpiles. i think what he has been clear on is our goal is to make sure that we maintain america s dominance around the world and that if other countries flout is, we don t sit back and allow them to grow theirs. reporter: domestic policy question and then a foreign policy question, if you will. you said yesterday that the president had named a task force on the voter fraud probe. when did he name that task force specifically? i think two weeks ago he announced that vice president pence would lead that task force and that the vice president and his team were starting to look at members reporter: you re referring to the interview in which he said there would be a task force and not that something has happened since then? that s correct. reporter: on foreign policy, the president said in his saturday campaign spee
reputation, a repudiation of obama s presidency to some extent. but i see trumps hostility as focused every bit as much on the republican party and its leadership as the democratic party, and i know that is true of many of the voters. that is the first thing. the second thing is, there is a freshness about the way trump sees the country that i think is really disconcerting to a lot of people, but also really interesting. if you take the train to from washington to new york, and we all do, you drive through a post-industrial wasteland that all of us are inert too, we don t notice it anymore, but it is dead factory after dead factory. trump is horrified by that. you read the people and people are dying in mass because of gang killings, he is mad about that. the third obvious point is this was not a conservative speech. there was nothing in here about paring back government at all. this is populism, and it s never been as purely distilled i thought as it was tonight. or this morning. you
i think there s a sense on their part that we re indifferent to the situation they face, the security situation that they face. and we certainly don t need to send the signal that we re indifferent to their situation, do we? the greatest generation came home from world war ii recognizing, whether we like it or not, we re part of this world, sir. we re going to have to remember that lesson. and i realize this was a foreign policy question, but you re going to be part of the national security and foreign policy team. and let me say that one of my greatest concerns with regard to our failure to veto this resolution and therefore to let it be adopted by the u.n. security council is that people will argue that this establishes international law, and somehow this congress and this new administration are going to have to send the signal that we do not recognize that with regard
