Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will preside over his first City Council meeting, which is expected to address the migrant crisis.

Activists said Paul Vallas recently promised the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans that he will put the Christopher Columbus statues back in Grant Park and Arrigo Park. Vallas has not made that statement publicly, and his campaign did not return FOX 32 Chicago's requests for comment.

“They're blaming Christopher Columbus for all our problems in this world, which is not fair to Christopher Columbus, and it isn't fair to the Italian-Americans in Chicago,” said Frank Coconate.

All 17 seats on the county board are up for election this year; the GOP currently holds only two.

In front of red light cameras at an Oak Brook Terrace intersection, Raul Montes Jr. and Frank Coconate, both longtime opponents of red light and speed cameras, argued the city, the county, the state and every community that uses the cameras should get rid of them, or at least pause all camera programs for the time being.
