GREENVILLE — The number of visitors won’t be known for sure until the day of the event as those coming to the Moosehead Lake Region for the  total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8 could total in the thousands or tens of thousands. Municipal, county, and state officials have been busy preparing for the high end as Greenville Town Manager Mike Roy explained to the select board during a meeting on March 6.

GREENVILLE — The town of Greenville will continue to symbolically change its name to a different color to mark Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month in June. The community will be known as “Purpleville” each year to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease as the select board gave its approval to the designation during a Feb.

GREENVILLE — Located downtown on the Lily Bay Road, the Shaw Public Library serves residents of Greenville and surrounding communities and visitors to the Moosehead Lake Region alike. Library staff, volunteers, and the 5-member board of trustees are continually looking at how to best provide resources for those coming through doors through a strategic plan, which Shaw Public Library Trustees President Jolene Staruch discussed with the Greenville Select Board during a Jan.

GREENVILLE — The Northern Forest Center is currently working on a Spruce Street housing project with the town of Greenville,Moosehead Lake Region Economic Development Corp., and Northern Light CA Dean Hospital to bring middle-income housing to the community.

GREENVILLE — The adjustments do not need to be made in the immediate future, but the Greenville Planning Board is looking to make a pair of amendments to its by-laws. One would align the document wording to the current meeting schedule and the other would change the meeting quorum from four to three members.

GREENVILLE — One of two vacancies on the Greenville Planning Board has been filled. The Greenville Select Board approved the planning board’s recommendation of Brent Ireland during a July 19 meeting.

GREENVILLE — With many visitors coming to Greenville to enjoy the sites downtown as well as Moosehead Lake and other nearby natural attractions, parking spaces have become harder and harder to find for tourists and locals alike.  There are no easy remedies to the lack of parking, but town officials hope to work with business owners, the Maine Department of Transportation, and others to find short- and long-term solutions.
