At approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday, Gary police received a call in reference to a shot fired inside Lighthouse College Prep Academy, officials said.

The shooting victim told police he had gone to a home in the 3900 block of Louisiana Street to buy the illegal drug when he was shot.

The shooter fired bullets Sunday afternoon into the home on the 500 block of Vermont Street, police said.

Norman Bailey, 60, who was serving his second term on the school board, was praised by board president Robert Buggs. “I call him ‘Norman the quiet storm,’ because he was nice and easy going, but don’t get him riled,” said Buggs.

Mayor Jerome Prince vowed the city police department "will use every tool available to bring the person or people responsible for this heinous act to justice."
