The Community Foundation of St. Clair County recently announced a $105,000 grant to support the programs and operations of SONS Outreach in its new home at the former Harrison School in Port Huron.

Port Hurons chief administrator sent an invite out to community leaders in late August but said theyd expand the tour date if public interests persists.

While City Council approved two playscape upgrades, they also OKd a $1 million grant application to create a public park in Harrison Pointe.

The purchase support comes from the citys American Rescue Plan funds. Officials hope to finalize agreement to take nearby playground and greenspace later this month.

City officials may be exploring ways to take on the school playground to get improvements park.

"I’m making the difficult decision to close right now temporarily, pending health department and city approval," said Whiskey Coffee Company owner Dale Moses.

At least four new urban gardens have been established in the City of Port Huron in the last two years.

From Jan. 1 to Aug. 25, 2022, there were 19,382 police calls for service in Port Huron, compared to 18,448 in the same time period last year.
