Govt officially declares Vijayanagar as 31st district of Karnataka

Ballari, Feb 8: Karnataka government on Monday officially declared Vijayanagar as the 31st district of Karnataka and Hospete as its new district headquarters.
In this regards, government issued Gazetted notification on Monday and said that the new Vijaynagar district constituted by dividing earlier Ballari district, will consist of six talukas namely Hosapate, Kudligi, Hagari Bommanhalli, Kottur, Hoovina Hadagali and Harappanahalli talukas.
Minister Sriramulu also welcomed the decision and said that it is good for future development of the region.
Many pro-Kannada organisation very stringy oppose this decision and took dharna and protest march in the busy Royal circle in the city.
Mangaluru: Customs officials seize gold worth Rs 30 lac from Dubai returnee

Mangaluru, Jan 30: Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on Saturday January 30 arrested one passenger who had arrived from Dubai to MIA on Air India flight IX 1814.
The arrested is identified as Mashkoor Kallar hailing from Kasargod, Kerala. On profiling and personal search, the passenger was found to have concealed gold in paste form in his rectum. Gold weighing 0.587 KG of 24k purity valued at Rs 30 lac (approx) was recovered and seized.

Mangaluru, Jan 26: On receiving definite information, the customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport intercepted Abdul Rasheed Adukkam Kottumba who arrived from Dubai on Air India flight IX 1814 on January 21. Rasheed who is a resident of Kasargod, Kerala has been accused of smuggling gold in paste form in his rectum.
The officials recovered and the seized the gold which weighed 0.658 kg. The gold has 24K purity which is valued at Rs 33.29 lac. The accused was booked under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act by the deputy commissioner of the airport customs.

MANGALURU: In one of the biggest seizures, the officers of Mangaluru customs have arrested two passengers, who arrived from Sharjah and seized 2.15kg of gold concealed gold in paste form in inner wear. The seized gold is valued about Rs 1.09 crore.
Imamuddin Ahmed, commissioner of customs, Mangaluru said that based on intelligence and profiling of passengers, Customs sleuths intercepted Faizal Thotty Melparamba, 37 and Mohammad Shuhaib Mugu, 31, residents of Kasaragod, Kerala.
They had arrived from Sharjah by Air India flight IX 1384 on January 14. On personal search both passengers found to have concealed gold in paste form in their inner wear. A total gold of 2.154 kg of 24k purity valued Rs 1.09 crore was recovered and seized.
