Core inflation, which excludes food, and fuel and light groups, is expected to continue its downward trajectory and may come in below the 4%-mark for the fourth consecutive month.

Twenty of the 23 economists in the poll see inflation falling below 5%, and three see it at 5%. The lowest forecast is 4.4%

The August 5-9 poll of 48 economists showed consumer price inflation eased to 5.78 per cent last month from 6.26 per cent in June.
