Core inflation, which excludes food, and fuel and light groups, is expected to continue its downward trajectory and may come in below the 4%-mark for the fourth consecutive month.

Among economists polled by Mint, projections ranged from 4.90% to 5.50%, with only three of them expecting inflation to rise from the previous month.

While the moderation may give RBI some breathing room, the regulator is still worried about significant uncertainty in food prices due to “the possibility of adverse weather events”

Twenty of the 23 economists in the poll see inflation falling below 5%, and three see it at 5%. The lowest forecast is 4.4%
