Around 388 infrastructure projects in India, each requiring an investment of Rs 150 crore or more, have suffered cost overruns amounting to more than Rs 4.65 lakh crore, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Reasons such as delay in land acquisition, delay in obtaining forest and environment clearances, and lack of infrastructure support and linkages have been cited in the report for overruns in projects.

As many as 335 infrastructure projects, each entailing an investment of Rs 150 crore or more, have been hit by cost overruns of more than Rs 4.46 lakh crore, as per an official report.

The minister for road transport and highways was speaking at the "National Conference on Investment Opportunities in Highway, Transport, and Logistics" in Mumbai.

A total of 438 projects in the infrastructure sector, worth more than Rs 150 crore have been affected by cost overruns totalling Rs 4.34 lakh crores
