Projects Hit News Today

According to a report by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, 412 infrastructure projects in India, with investments of over Rs 150 crore each, have experienced cost overruns of more than Rs 4.77 lakh crore in August 2023. Out of a total of 1,762 projects, 830 were delayed.

Around 388 infrastructure projects in India, each requiring an investment of Rs 150 crore or more, have suffered cost overruns amounting to more than Rs 4.65 lakh crore, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Reasons such as delay in land acquisition, delay in obtaining forest and environment clearances, and lack of infrastructure support and linkages have been cited in the report for overruns in projects.

The anticipated costs of 1,681 projects were Rs 4.8 lakh crore, higher than the original cost of Rs 24.2 lakh crore. Nearly half of the infrastructure projects worth Rs 150 crore and more monitored by the ministry were delayed with respect to the original schedule, of which another 607 were delayed with respect to the latest schedule as well.
