Hospitals in Colorado can no longer sue patients under the names of their debt collectors after Gov. Jared Polis signed a new law last week; hospital bill lawsuits.

UCHealth lawsuits have hit thousands of patients. A 9NEWS Colorado Sun investigation found the hospital system uses debt collectors to sue, avoiding public scrutiny.

In the last five years, patients have been sued 15,710 times for money owed to UCHealth. Most of those lawsuits were filed in the name of debt collectors working for the hospital system.
