BWSSB's move mitigates water woes in Varthur

Most of the borewells in Varthur and surrounding areas were dried up owing to deficit rainfall last year and summer heat, thus causing an acute shortage of water. This prompted the elected representatives and the BWSSB authorities to take the decision to have a water filling point for Varthur and its surrounding areas.

Vent out: Curtains on route linking Croma Road to ORR

A senior Railway official told BM, “The vent was created to allow water to flow. Earlier, the stretch used to be closed for vehicular traffic and it was opened at the request of local leaders. But whenever it rains and there is waterlogging, the blame is on the Railways. We have now decided to close the stretch permanently even on non-rainy days. We have erected big signages and blocked the entry for motorists.”

However, he also questioned the feasibility of monitoring the Chroma road vent. He said, “Yesterday could have been another KR circle, but closing down the vent might not be feasible. Officials are not always monitoring the scenario. Traffic officials usually monitor but are not provided with the proper gear to man such areas.
