Murders on Staten Island have surged 129% so far this year over last year, to 16 from 7. Major crimes are up in every category and 17% overall, according to NYPD data through Sept. 10.

Authorities are still searching for three individuals who shot a 16-year-old girl in the head, ultimately killing her -- two weeks ago, the NYPD said.

The boy, who lived in South Beach, was shot next to the Stapleton Houses on Friday.
