Community Says Goodbye To Concord Police Officer Killed In The Line Of Duty

WCCB Charlotte's CW December 23, 2020 Shuping was escorted by three dozen motorcycle officers to his final resting place.  “He is our fallen hero,” said Jill Barrier, a Concord resident.   People stopped to pay respects on the streets as 300 other friends, family and community members attended the funeral of Officer Jason Shuping at the Cabarrus Arena.  “It just makes my heart glad that people respect them and love them and just want to be here to show their respect,” said Barrier.  “His dedication to our city will be forever cherished and remembered,” said Concord Mayor William Dusch.  The 25 year old was shot and killed on December 16th while responding to a carjacking call near Concord Mills. The suspect, 29 year old Jeremy Daniels also died of gunshots.

Concord Police Officer Jason Shuping was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon following a service at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center. As a procession was escorted by law enforcement officers to the site of the funeral, and then to Shuping’s gravesite in Faith, N.C., community members waited along the streets to pay their respects to Officer Shuping, who was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 16.

21 Dec 2020 A suspect allegedly shot a Kings Mountain, North Carolina, police officer Saturday night during an exchange of gunfire. This is the fourth shooting of a Charlotte-area officer in the past two weeks, officials say. A Kings Mountain resident contacted police about a suspicious person on their back porch Saturday night, WSOC TV9 reported. Dispatchers sent Corporal Frank Lee Whittington, Jr. to investigate. Whitting confronted the suspect near a country club. During the contact, the officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire and left both shooters injured, the local news outlet reported. Kings Mountain Police Chief Lisa Proctor told reporters that Whittington was out of surgery and is expected to recover. She did not disclose the nature of his injuries.

A Kings Mountain Police officer is expected to recover after being shot Saturday night while responding to a suspicious person call near the country club in Kings Mountain. The suspected shooter also was injured in the shooting. Kings Mountain Police Cpl. Frank Lee Whittington Jr. was taken to Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby after exchanging fire with an unidentified man after responding to a call about a suspicious person at a home on Downing Drive, said Kings Mountain Police Chief Lisa Proctor. “We are very thankful that he is alive and that we are not planning funeral number three in the last week and a half for another law enforcement officer,” Proctor said.
