A former assistant attorney general who oversaw the investigation and prosecution of a drug-using chemist at a Massachusetts crime lab has been disbarred for failing to disclose the full extent of the worker’s potential misconduct to affected drug defendants.

In a case involving the discipline leveled against three state prosecutors caught in the mire of the Sonja Farak drug lab scandal, the Supreme Judicial Court is set to consider to what extent an attorney’s reliance on a supervisor’s directions or a subordinate’s representations may be used to defend or mitigate charges of professional misconduct.
