Earlier in May, IMD has predicted a relatively dry June for Pune due to the late arrival of the monsoon.

Pune and its surrounding regions are expected to see the mercury cross 40 degrees Celsius from Wednesday.

The IMD said the drop in temperature was on the expected lines and the maximum temperature would now hover around 38-39 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted Pune would continue to experience hot weather for the next few days as the maximum temperature would continue to hover above the 40 degrees-mark.

April it might be recalled was the wettest for Pune in the last 20 years.

With the maximum temperature likely to be around the 38 degrees Celsius mark, the IMD has warned of heat stroke-like conditions.

The purpose of heat-related illness surveillance is to assess the burden of illness and mortality due to heat, plan responses to adapt and mitigate heat impact, and evaluate the impact of climate action and changing climate.

Pune's maximum temperature would be around 36.6 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature would be 18 degree Celsius.

On Wednesday, Pune recorded maximum temperature of 36.8 degree Celsius which was the highest for the month. However areas like Shirur, Rajgurunagar, Chinchwad, Khed saw temperatures cross 37 degrees Celsius

The IMD has alerted about a western disturbance as well as a cyclonic circulation over western Rajasthan and its neighbourhood.
