Willmar City Council approved rezoning a lot in Rockstep Plaza from shopping district to general business district.

A public hearing will take place regarding the rezoning of lot four of the Rockstep Plaza Second Addition in order to accommodate the remodel of the building to become a drive-thru restaurant.

The national soft goods retail store TJ Maxx will be occupying the vacant OfficeMax building, located at 1901 S. First St. in Willmar.

The Willmar City Council this week adopted the first of many expected amendments to its zoning ordinance in order to make it more clear and concise. The council on Monday also adopted a text amendment regarding the location of brewpubs within the city.

Cleanup is needed on a downtown Willmar lot slated to be the home of an apartment complex, including petroleum, a fuel tank leak and solvents used by a former dry cleaning business.

There is already interest from a private party to open an indoor gun range in Willmar, specifically for his own business. Prior to the city granting such permission, the Willmar Planning Commission will need to update the city's zoning code to allow such a facility.

The Willmar City Council is moving the sale of 4.1 acres of land to Willmar Poultry Innovations to a public hearing on Nov. 1. The poultry business plans to expand its operation on Kandiyohi County Road 116 and needs the land for the project.
