Initially, there were low numbers of applications for the Kere Mitra initiative but BBMP has received 762 applications so far. From the first set of 690 applications, the civic body has selected 124 Kere Mitras.

Another initiative is Hasiru Rakshaka: “Under the BBMP limits, safeguarding the greenery of Bengaluru is a collective responsibility. In line with this, the BBMP has introduced three mobile apps and web links to encourage public participation in maintaining gardens and lakes. These apps, namely ‘Hasiru Rakshaka’, ‘Udyana Mitra’, and ‘Kere Mitra’, aim to foster a greener environment within the city,” said an official.

According to BBMP, the delay in kickstarting the initiative is owing to a technical glitch in the application. Moreover, there are plans to reopen the web portal so more citizens can register. Officials said nearly 600 citizens have volunteered to safeguard lakes and this number is not enough.

Interested individuals can register as volunteers on the BBMPs website. The initiative aims to improve cleanliness, prevent encroachments, and promote the development of these areas.
