To the editor — The Postal Service is in crisis. In 2020, we had $137 billion in losses, more than $20 billion of deferred maintenance and expected to run out

Near the end of 2023, it became clear that the U.S. Postal Service under Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, was looking at making changes to the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC). 

Outgoing mail would process and transfer to either Amarillo or stay in West Texas. With an investment by the USPS, the focus on community mail could be improved.

The picket is ahead of the planned public meeting organized by the USPS to discuss the initial findings of its review of the William Street facility.
