Engineers in Flagler County are in the middle of about a half dozen dune nourishment projects after hurricanes in recent years took huge amounts of them.

The project should finish ahead of turtle nesting season in April, County Engineer Faith Alkhatib said.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Shawn Hamilton returned to Flagler County to continue assessing damages along the shoreline.

Palmetto berries are protected and are a food source for wildlife.

The repair project will take place Aug. 15-30. There is no horse access during construction.

Stops on the tour include: Herschel King, Wadsworth, Hammock Community Center and Park, MalaCompra Park, Bay Drive Park, and Princess Place Preserve.
