The head of Metro Media says the Quebec newspaper publisher will declare bankruptcy this week.

A week after announcing the "immediate suspension" of Métro Médias activities, the companys president and CEO, Andrew Mulé, is still hoping for some last-minute help to get things back up and running.

"It happened so fast. We just dont know," CEO Andrew Mulé said on Saturday. "Were taking it one day at a time."

The abrupt closure of Quebec newspaper publisher Metro Media will end news coverage of local government in parts of the provinces two largest cities, media observers say.

"Its the end of hyperlocal coverage in Montreal and Quebec City. Theres going to be no coverage of borough councils."

The newspaper companys CEO blames Montreals decision to ban the Publisac.
