During the pandemic, more than 7,000 people have tested positive for the virus in Bracknell Forest and 185 of them have died. Bracknell’s seven-day infection rate peaked at 848.6 cases per 100,000 people on January 1 – four days before the national lockdown was imposed. But the rate has plummeted during lockdown and the latest figures show it stood at 24.5 cases per 100,000 people on April 10. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the national lockdown has done “the bulk of the work in reducing the disease” in the UK and it has “not been achieved by the vaccination programme”. Across Berkshire, 412,947 have had at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, according to the latest NHS figures.
