Family members of Philadelphia school students voiced their concerns about the ongoing asbestos problem in city schools that continues to disrupt education. 

Universal Vare Charter School closed indefinitely Friday after an asbestos exposure was discovered becoming the sixth school in Philadelphia to close. Students and staff will have virtual learning for the time being. Students who have to take PSSA exams will be bussed to Universal Audenried High School on test days.

Universal Vare is the sixth school to close due to asbestos, following the C.W. Henry Elementary School, which closed on Monday.

The C.W. Henry Elementary School in Mt. Airy just became the 5th city school that must close due to the discovery of asbestos in the building.

It’s unclear how widespread the problem is at Universal Vare Charter School, or when the school might reopen.

A sixth Philadelphia school announced it will be temporarily closing due to asbestos issues.
