An area of Central Florida known as a magnet for criminal activity could soon get a face-lift. Channel 9 has been telling you about this massive property for years as it's been plagued by violence and drugs. Now, city council is moving forward with plans to do something about it.

Nearly a year after two teenagers were found dead in the Palm Bay area known as “The Compound,” police say they have arrested a man in connection with their deaths.

On Saturday, Palm Bay Police were called out to an undeveloped area of the city known as The Compound.

Police have arrested Rene Lemos, 41, and  Robert Paul Lanning III, 28, who both have been charged in connection with a fatal shooting at The Compound. Lanning and Lemos told Detectives they met Nicholas Mitchell on Aug. 30 at Circle K in Palm Bay and then drove to The Compound in Mitchell’s vehicle and Lemos’ truck, and at some point, Mitchell was shot several times and Mitchell’s body was left along a road.

Palm Bay Police homicide detectives are investigating the discovery of a body in the area known as The Compound, according to police.

The man accused of killing a woman, dismembering and burning her body, and burying it in Palm Bay’s Compound told investigators that he was forced to kill the woman after she tried to take his gun, according to documents released in the case earlier this month.

Thursday, the Palm Bay City Council collected public opinion during a workshop on the current condition and future potential of the Compound.

After two hours of pitching development ideas for the future of the undeveloped Compound, Palm Bay said the city will look into the suggestions from its public workshop Thursday night before bringing those ideas back to the council for another debate.

City leaders plan to discuss what’s next for the troubled area.
