DISABLED drivers are set to be handed refunds after being hit with parking fines following a “machine glitch” at a Canvey shopping centre. Blue badge holders will be receiving refunds from Smart Parking after “machine errors” at the Knightswick car park caused fines to be issued. The move comes after Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point, stepped in this week. Mrs Harris said:“I have contacted the council about the penalty charge notices given out in error to blue badge holders who have used the Knightswick car park. “They have arranged for the charges to be cancelled. But frustrated drivers are now refusing to park at the car park, with machines still breaking, causing queues of people to wait in the cold to pay for tickets.
