handful of fox people resulted in a company crisis, that means the company is not a news company. because giving truthful news actually was a big problem. so, that s what the court documents are so fascinating for. it s this tale of the tables are being turned on fox the court documents were also fascinating because they show that multiple hosts believed one thing, but we re texting one thing. in fact, in many cases, we re ripping on donald trump and then saying something completely different on television given that, how do you think this case is going to turn out out? i think what s so fascinating about that is that sometimes we call fox an opinion network or we say that the opinion side which is the prime time side is different than the new side. but in this case, we see that fox is not really even opinion journalism either.
well, of course, i was on the opinion side of things. i was totally shocked, like everyone else that morning. mi thought it was a great scoop. it seems like we had reported it very thoroughly. and then we saw 10:00 in the morning facebook announced it would quote, ungovernment reduce circulation on the story pending fact checking. and twitter all together banned the story not only could you not share it on your public timeline but you couldn t send it in direct messages. and then they suspended the twitter account of the new york post. america s oldest continuously published daily newspaper funded by alexander hamilton and kept it that way for two weeks. that s why it s extremely, i think, enraging and shameful to hear someone like representative alexandria ocasio-cortez call this a waste of time. you know, at its best, at its best, the old left was about checking concentrations of corporate power. and there s no better example of this kind of market power to
right to do so because those lawmakers refused to cooperate. refused to answer questions about the key attack on democracy. they will not, i promise you, will not get answers from these members before the hearings. but perhaps in a fight with the appellate court in the supreme court, ultimately, they may get the answers at the end of the day. you know, carol, you are new side reporter. i am on the opinion side of the paper. so i will give my opinion. i just think that a sitting member of congress has a patriotic duty to answer the questions of a committee investigating an attack on their workplace, which also happens to be a cradle of american democracy. so i m just going to put that out there. these hearings are supposed to start on june 9th. could you walk us through the types of information we could see being presented by the
media correspondent for npr and author of murdoch s world . the texts from the anchors are quite extraordinary to me as a journalist. they were effectively acting as a feedback lab. they knew in real time this was a desperate moment, whatever they said since then on fox news. at that moment, that precise moment, they were really working as political functionaries? moment, they were really working as politicalfunctionaries? it moment, they were really working as political functionaries? political functionaries? it gives the lie to the political functionaries? it gives the lie to the idea political functionaries? it gives the lie to the idea that - political functionaries? it gives the lie to the idea that there . political functionaries? it gives the lie to the idea that there is any separation of identity between fox news s most influential and successful figures and the political folks they are supposed to cover. let us grant that all people were talking about were accused of se
leaving the network, hears coming to cnn plus. i think it s part of a string of departures of reporters or journalists who were tied to a network where many of the voices are pr voices for the president or any number of conspiracies. what s your sense of what s happening with fox news and the direction that it s headed? they re purging anyone who actually acts like a journalist and tries to have fact-based arguments. it s a parallel of what s been going on in the republican party in terms of the hunting for heretics, the kicking out of the center and the elevation only of ideological absolutists for donald trump. but it s playing out in what is ostensibly a news organization but what is just a right-wing talk tv where the opinion side is unhinged from facts and anyone who has got a scintilla
