Over a decade after the bar in the La Valencia Hotel closed and was replaced by a now-shuttered bistro, a prominent restaurant group is opening an updated version this month — complete with its famed whale mural.

ISSAQUAH — Calabria at Talus, at 2000 N.W. Talus Drive in Issaquah, sold for just under $9 million, according to King County records. The seller was an LLC associated with Pacifica Cos. of San Diego, which acquired the project out of receivership in 2012 for $3.6 million.  

Kotoko Toji has lived in Los Angeles since the 1950s but speaks little English. When it came time to move to a retirement home 15 years ago, she had a request: Sakura Gardens. Like Toji, many of the residents are Japanese Americans in their 80s and 90s. Most of the staff speaks Japanese.
