With just a wave of a hand, Brain Surgeons can get some help in the opeting room. Thats all thanks a pair of university of iowa undergraduate students. Live in the newsroom this morning. Forrest, what did these students do to help surgeons . They built a robot. Three ui students coded and assembled the thing for a senior project. Take a look. Currently, doctors often use microscopes to do brain surgery. They have to spend up to ten hours looking into the device, often hunched over. The robot replaces all that. It uses cameras to lock on to an area of the brain, like a tumor. Video is sent back to a headset, which the surgeon can wear. The doctor can even use a special hands free controller to move the camera. Though the robot is a prototype, creators have high hopes for the future. Were happy with our result.
