Congress has called a two-hour-long state-wide bandh of markets in Karnataka on March 9 against the corrupt BJP government, said party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday.

BJP MLA Virupaksha's son was caught red-handed taking bribe from Karnataka Lokayukta on March 3. Wades of cash over Rs 6 crore were also recovered from his residence.

The anti-defection statute, which was brought into force in 1985, was made stricter in 2002 to prevent political switchovers. 

The anti-corruption wing of Lokayukta on Friday raided the residence of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Maadal Virupakshappas son Prashant Maadal and recovered Rs 6 crore cash.

Prashant Maadal is a chief accountant at Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and son of BJP MLA Maadal Virupakshappa.
