The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC) are investigating a salmonella outbreak in 37 states tied to whole, fresh onions.

The agency says interviews with people sickened by the outbreak indicate that 75 percent of them ate or may have eaten raw onions.

The vegetable thats known for making people cry is now making hundreds of people sick across the U.S.; according to the CDC, 652 cases of illnesses have been traced back to a salmonella outbreak caused by various types of imported onions from Mexico and distributed by ProSource Inc. 

The FDA is investigating a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to whole, fresh onions that has led to more than 100 hospitalizations.

People in South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and many other states have been sickened by tainted onions. Check your pantry, fridge, and freezer for these onions.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration and public health officials from several states determined onions caused a recent salmonella outbreak.

The CDC is advising people to throw away any unlabeled onions as a precaution.

A salmonella outbreak has affected more than 30 states. Federal health officials link it to onions grown in Chihuahua, Mexico, and distributed by ProSource Inc.
