The weather office issued red alerts for many areas in Maharashtra, Odisha warning the people of extremely heavy rains. Meanwhile, Delhi witnessed no showers, despite the weather department predicting light rains.

Rainfall activity is likely to gradually enhance over Peninsular India from today, IMD said. While heavy rains is predicted over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and northeastern states during the next few days.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the nearby northern plains, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted enhanced rainfall activity over north India during the next three to four days.

As per IMD, widespread rains with isolated heavy falls are possible over Rajasthan on Wednesday (July 27); Punjab, north Haryana and Chandigarh from Wednesday to Sunday (July 27-31), and Uttar Pradesh from Thursday to Sunday (July 28-31).

From Himachal Pradesh to Tamil Nadu, several states and UTs are likely to see bouts of heavy to very heavy rainfall till July 28.

According to IMD, isolated very heavy rainfall is very likely over Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh on July 21 and over Uttarakhand from July 21-23.

Heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa and other parts of India today, said IMD. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rainfall has been declared in Idukki, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts today.
