In the Dec. 12 letter to the editor “Know your facts about guns” (Our Readers’ Views), the writer states that a person’s credibility is impacted if they don’t know the difference between a gun that fires continuously with one squeeze of the trigger to kill many people and a gun that kills many people after the trigger has been squeezed repeatedly.

This is in response to the letter “Know your facts about guns” (Our Readers’ Views, Dec. 12). The fact that civilians cannot buy an automatic weapon since the law was passed in 1986 is true.

I was dismayed to read Sandie Schwary’s patronizing apology (“Notre Dame scholarship is a gift,” Our Readers’ Views, Dec. 8) for Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly’s duplicitous dealmaking with football recruit (and Union High School wide receiver) Tobias Merriweather.

In response to “Electoral College makes sense” (Our Readers’ Views, Nov. 14): It is a plain fact that the Electoral College is (by any reasonable definition) anti-democratic.

To Bob Staples, author of “Respect the right to refuse vaccine” (Our Readers’ Views, Nov. 19): Who are you arguing with? No one is being forced to get vaccinated.

I just finished reading the short letter from Don Kapitanovich about how people facing eviction should just get a job (“A job is the way to pay rent,” Our Readers’ Views, Nov. 2). What an overused and oversimplified “solution” he gives to a complicated, multitiered problem. Here are just a few of the reasons why the suggestion to “just get a job” is not at all helpful:

I share Mr. Hauser’s concern for the lack of a “bipartisan consensus.” However, you can’t have a consensus when it’s progressives against an opposing party that has no coherent belief system other than to be “against” what the other side is “for.”
